In Singer/Songwriter Land, comparisons are inevitable, and listening to Kenny Floyd’s new album, Over Easy, you can just hear the critics draw similarities between the Anderson, S.C., native and, say, Darius Rucker (in his Hootie days), Corey Smith, Vance Gilbert, even Kristen Hall (pre-Sugarland) and, occasionally, Jimmy Buffett, thanks to the enviable settings in Kenny’s songs: St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, where Kenny runs off to write and perform, after spending 10 grueling years banging his bald pate against the music-industry wall. But drawing comparisons, as easy and tempting as that may be, turns into a specious exercise, especially considering that Kenny has shared stages with everyone from Hootie to Hoobastank, from Three Doors Down to Theory of a Deadman, from Uncle Cracker to Cowboy Mouth.
