Bio: Alonzo M. Coley was born in Chicago in 1979. Growing up in the Englewood area, he got into trouble at a young age. It was during his incarceration in a juvenile detention facility that he began writing rhymes. Upon his release at the age of 17, he recorded two singles with a small Chicago-based label and went on to release a single independently in 1999. Alonzo sold over 14,000 copies of his Maxi single from the trunk of his car.
In 1999 and 2000 Alonzo entered the Budweiser Freshest MC contest and came in close as a semi-finalist and then a finalist. In 2002 and 2004, he won the contest and was named Budweiser’s Freshest MC. Along the way, his talented lyrics and dynamic stage performance earned him a large following in the underground circuit. Since 2005, Alonzo has independently released and sold over 60,000 copies of his singles.
