How it works
Uploading audio and image files to your Myxer
Myxer can make ringtones and mobile wallpapers from just about any
common audio or image format. Popular formats supported include MP3,
WMA, WAV, and AAC/M4A for audio, and GIF, JPEG, and PNG for images.
We make it easy to upload the original files from your computer right from
your artist dashboard. If the source files you
want to use are already hosted online we can transfer them to your Myxer
account for you, just point us to the URL.

Every ringtone and wallpaper you create has a set of basic details you can
control, such as the title, category (genre), and tags (keywords) you want
to have associated with it. When your content is included in the Myxer
catalog, this information helps other people find and discover your content.
If your account is designated as a MyxerIndie™, you can choose to
set a retail price from $.99 to $2.99 on each ringtone and wallpaper you create.
Reporting and Payments
Myxer has robust reporting capabilities that allow you to track
downloads and purchases of your content. These statistics are updated
in real time and stored in a historical database, allowing you the
flexibility to get both up-to-the-minute details on which of your products
is selling today, as well as build historical reports to track long
term trends.
Don't worry if you're not interested in hitting "refresh" every few minutes
to check out how much you're doing. We automatically send you a payment
once a month when you're selling content.

Delivery by Text
Every product in the Myxer catalog is assigned a unique ID number, which makes
it available for download or purchase directly from any compatible mobile phone. Your
fans simply send a text message to the Myxer shortcode (69937, which is "MYXER"
on the phone keypad) that contains your products ID number, and the product will be
delivered right to their phone.
If you are a MyxerIndie, you can create a cutom MyxerCode for your content. Users
can then text your MyxerCode and receive a link to your artist's profile
page and full content catalog. MyxerCodes are also automatically created for each
individual content item in an artist's catalog, allowing users to request and download
content items by simply texting the MyxerCode for the item they want to 69937.
This works with both free content and premium content (which is billed to the
user's phone bill), and is a great way to provide instant access to your content
from a concert, printed advertisement, or television spot.

You can build all the MyxerTags™ you want and put them all over your websites, embed them in
comments to other people on MySpace, put them in your blog, whatever.
Here's the next best part: it's free for anyone to download your ringtones if you want or you can choose
to charge money. Standard disclaimers here: we send a text message to anyone that downloads your content,
and they have to download the content using their phone's internet connection. So it's possible their
carrier will charge them usage fees, but we don't have any hidden charges or subscriptions.
What do I need to get started?
First, create a free artist account.
All you need is an email address. Then point us to your original songs available on your computer
or anywhere on the Web. There is no need to modify the files you already have. We have
online tools to help you pick the exact portion of the song you want to share or sell as your ringtone.
What if I have content, but I'm not an independent artist?
Although focused primarily on the needs of independent musicians, Myxer artist accounts
may be used by anyone who owns original content that they want to make available to a mobile
audience. Some of our "artists" are actually record labels, advertising agencies,
and other web sites. The simplicity with which one can use Myxer to create mobile
content from existing assets makes it a great solution for all kinds of partners.

Who is allowed to sell ringtones and wallpapers?
If your account is marked as a MyxerIndie™, then you are allowed
to charge for your ringtones and wallpapers.
You are only allowed to Sell items that you have created and/or have the rights to sell.
If you are not an Independent Artist but have content you wish to sell, please
contact us to enable it.
What is this MyxerIndie™ thing?
It’s is special designation that we give to artist accounts who ask, and who provide us with
some additional information like a website and an artist image. It is simply a way for us to
help you present yourself or your band in the best possible light to your fans. MyxerIndie
status means that you the independent musician, band or record label can count on these things:
- If you choose to sell your content, certification insures that we can always find you and pay you.
- Your content will always be a candidate to show up in our Popular and Explore pages.
- It enables you to create and maintain a Fanlist so you can reach out to the mobile phones of your fans at any time.
How do I become a MyxerIndie?
It's easy! Just create an artist account and create your first ringtone or wallpaper, then click on the
MyxerIndie link on done page or on your artist dashboard. (Note: You must have at least one ringtone or wallpaper
before you can request to become a MyxerIndie.) Your request will be reviewed by our artist team and you will
receive a reply in a day or two.
How much money can I earn?
One billion dollars. Roughly. Depending on how many fans you have.
You get 30% of the retail price for every item you sell.
(The rest goes to cover expenses such as PayPal or credit card transaction fees, SMS
message delivery, carrier fees, my wife's growing shoe collection, and the enormous
pile of cash we have in the middle of the room here.)
For example:
- You make a ringtone and pick a sales price of $1.99
- You get 60 cents (1.99 x .30 = .60) each time someone downloads your ringtone to their phone
- We send your earnings directly to your PayPal account once a month
How do I know how much I'm selling?
You can check your current activity at any time by logging into Myxer. We record
each sale in our database and allow you to follow them on the
activity page for your account.
How and when do I get paid?
We distribute earnings using PayPal,
because it's quick and easy and works for anybody with an email account. We
send money on or around the 15th of the month following the month in which
sales occurred. The delay is necessary so that we can be sure all sales are
cleared.
Do I have to charge for my ringtones and wallpapers if I become a MyxerIndie?
What are you, some kind of commie pinko? We love people that want to
give stuff to the mobile community for free, so we encourage it. So long as
it is your own original content, you can use Myxer to give it away
(give it away, give it away, give it away, now).
