My friend has this problem...

I didn't get a text message with my phone verification code.

We send the messages as soon as you request them, but sometimes is can take a while for the carriers to deliver an SMS message.

If you've already waited 15-20 minutes and still haven't received the message, here are some things you can try:

  1. Make sure that your phone can receive SMS messages. (Some carriers, like O2 and Orange UK require that you register before you can receive text messages.)
  2. Sometimes we send the SMS through e-mail, make sure this isn't blocked.
  3. Try resending it.(Selecting your carrier may help.)
  4. Send us more details.

I can't login to the Myxer website.

Make sure your browser is configured to accept cookies.

For Internet Explorer: Select Tools > Internet Options > Privacy > Advanced. Enter 'http://www.myxer.com' and click "Allow" and "Ok".

For Firefox: Select Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies > Exceptions. Enter 'http://www.myxer.com' and click "Allow" then "Ok".

If you are running McAfee Security Suite, check Security Center to make sure that www.myxer.com is on the "Allow" cookies list and is not on the "Reject" cookies list.

I can't upload my file.

Here are a few reasons why uploading a file might fail:

  • The file may be too large. Maximum file size is 30 MB.
  • It may be an unsupported file type. We support uploading WAV, MP3, M4A, and most WMA files.
  • The file may be protected with DRM. We cannot make ringtones or wallpapers from protected files.
  • Make sure your browser is configured to accept cookies.
  • The file may have international characters. Firefox doesn't like certain international characters. Try renaming the file or (gulp!) try using Internet Explorer.
  • Your internet connection is too slow and the upload timed out.

None of those? Well shoot, send us a note and we'll take a closer look.

Got Dial-up?

Even at their slowest, DSL or Cable is much better than dial-up.

If you're like most of us, you've got a million things to do and never enough time to do it. Getting rid of your dial-up connection will make your life easier.

You can get a high speed connection for as little as around fifteen bucks. You might even save some money because you can get rid of that second phone line.

There's no one DSL/Cable solution that's right for everyone. Location, price and speed are just a few of the considerations.

Here's just a few of the many high speed connections that MyxerTones users are using:
Heck some of these guys will even throw in a Wireless Router with one of these bad boys so you can connect a bunch of computers ... bet you can't do that with dial-up!

You'll be surprised what a better experience Myxer is at high speed.

I invited a friend, but I didn't get my credits.

Thanks for spreading the word about Myxer! That great news is that we no longer charge credits for making your own ringtones and wallpapers, so you don't need no stinkin' credits. To learn more about this change, visit this page.

I never received a ringtone or wallpaper message on my phone.

We send the messages as soon as you request them, but sometimes it can take a while for the carriers to deliver an SMS message.

If you've already waited 15-20 minutes and still havent received the message, here are some things you can try:

Verizon Wireless Users:

  1. Make sure that you have a camera phone and that PIX messaging enabled
  2. Go to the Phone Details page in your account settings and verify that your Wireless Carrier is set to Verizon Wireless.
  3. If you do not have a Myxer account, make sure you check the checkbox labeled Verizon Wireless near where you entered your phone number.
  4. Try resending your item from the resend page.

Non-Verizon Wireless Users:

  1. Go to the Phone Details page in your account settings and verify that your Wireless Carrier is set correctly.
  2. Make sure that your phone can receive SMS messages sent via Email. (messages will be sent from sms@myxer.com). (Some carriers, like O2 and Orange UK require that you register before you can receive text messages.)
  3. Try resending your item from the resend page.

I got a PIX message from you saying that I need to go to the Verizon Wireless site.

That most likely means that either your phone is not a camera phone or it does not have PIX messaging enabled. Because we send ringtones to Verizon Wireless phones as picture messages, PIX messaging must be enabled to receive ringtones from Myxer.

I got the message you sent, now what do I do?

Verizon Wireless Users: Open the message and download the attached song file to your phone, then set it as your ringtone. Click here for phone specific instructions.

Non-Verizon Wireless Users: Open the message and follow the link in the message to download the song file to your phone, then set it as your ringtone. Click here for phone specific instructions.

I can't follow the link on my phone.

Verizon Users: Verizon Wireless phones don't support following a link. Go to the Phone Details page, make sure that your carrier is set to Verizon Wireless, and that "Send Ringtone as Attachment" is selected. Then resend the ringtone to your phone if necessary.

Non-Verizon Wireless Users: Go to the Phone Details page, make sure your carrier is set correctly, and that the 'Send Ringtone as Attachment' option is NOT selected. Then resend the ringtone to your phone if necessary.

Still having trouble?Try downloading your ringtones and wallpapers directly from our mobile site. Click here for instructions.

When I try to follow the link, it's asks me to sign-in.

Some phones, like the Samsung x497, modify the link we send and strip away some of the information you need to download the ringtone automatically.

I get an error message when I try to follow the link.

If you have been able to download ringtones or wallpapers in the past and you haven't changes anything on your account, the error most likely means that the network is busy. Wait a few minutes, make sure you have a strong signal, and try to follow the link again.

If you have never been able to download a ringtone or wallpaper from us, it may be that you do not have a full internet access plan on your phone. Some data plans, like T-Mobile's T-Zones, only allow you to access certain "approved" websites. Can you get to other websites from your phone (like www.yahoo.com or mobile.google.com)? If not, then you probably have a limited plan.

In order to use Myxer, you would need to switch to a plan that provides access to all websites. If you can get to these other sites, let us know since it must be another problem.

I can download the song, but I can't set it as a ringtone on my phone.

The problem may be that you don't have the latest software on your phone or we have the wrong phone model in your account. Make sure you have the latest software available for your phone and go to the Phone Details page and check that the phone information listed matches your actual phone. Then try resending the ringtone.

If that doesn't work, check to make sure that your sound profile is set to sounds only. Some phones won't allow you to set the song as a ringtone if the profile is set to silent of vibrate.

If it still doesn't work, don't give up yet. It might mean that we didn't send the ringtone in the best format for your phone. We try our best to send the song in the best format for each phone automatically, but sometimes we don't get it quite right. You can try some of the different format we have available. Just select a different Ringtone Format and try resending the ringtone to your phone.

Users have tried different ringtone formats on the following phones, but haven't found any that work. Sigh. Wallpapers should work fine though.

  • Audiovox CDM-8915
  • LG VX5200
  • LG VX8100
  • LG VX9800 (The "V")
  • Pantech PN-215
  • Samsung SCH-A850
  • Samsung SCH-A970
  • Sidekick II
  • Sidekick III

If you find a ringtone format that works better for your phone, sweet! Please let us know so we can update our software.

I received the PIX message on my Verizon Wireless phone, but the song was not attached

Verizon Wireless may delete the attachment if it is too big or it is the wrong format for the phone. First, try making your ringtones a little shorter. If that doesn't work, try some different formats we have available. You can update the ringtone format we send on the Phone Preferences page.

Start with a length of about 10 seconds. If that works, then try making it a little longer.

My phone says the ringtone is too big.

Some phones have a maximum size a ringtone can be. The LG VX6000, for example has a max ringtone length of 30 kb.

For Shared ringtones, you can edit the length by following the 'customize' or 'shorten' link on the item page.

For Make Your Own ringtones, our default ringtone is 20 seconds long (or about 70 KB). You can make the ringtone smaller by choosing a shorter segment. Just select the ringtone from your recent ringtone list, change the length, and resend it to your phone.

The ringtone doesn't sound very good on my phone.

We try to send the ringtone in the best format for each phone. So, the first thing to do is to go to the Phone Details page and check that the phone information listed matches your actual phone. Then try resending the ringtone.

If that doesn't work, then feel free to try some of the other formats we have available. Just go to the Phone Preferences page and select a different format from the Ringtone Format list, and resend your ringtone from the Recent Myxer list.

If you find a ringtone format that works better for your phone, please, please let us know so we can update our software. It's good karma.

I can't preview my ringtones.

Well, that can be a couple of different things.

  1. Check your audio settings. Double click on the speaker icon in your system tray to open the Master Volume control (Windows). Make sure that neither the "Master Volume" or "Wave" isn't too low or muted.
  2. If that looks good, follow this link to check to check the version of flash you have installed: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/. You'll need version 9.0 or higher.

The ringtone is too quiet.

You can change your default ringtone volume in your account settings.

How do I enter my phone number?

If you are in the US, be sure to enter your area code.

If you are outside of the US, you'll need to enter a leading plus sign (+) and your country code. Here are some examples:
