La Llorona, (the crying woman) as story has it, long ago, a woman caught her husband cheating on her. out of anger she threw her kids into a river and watched them float away. She realized what a terrible thing she did, and she tried to find them. her soul still haunts the river and when she sees children out at night she tries to take them. Ha! It's one of those legends that parents tell their kids so they'll come home at night, it's popular in latin/ spanish cultures.

Yes, la Llorona is about a lady that drowned her kids I heard it was in the river though. She does walk around in her bloody nightgown,It was very scary and sad. I have heard the stories about la Llorona when I was young. I have three kids now and it is kind of eerie.
